The Music Department at Government Arya College in Nurpur recently hosted a comprehensive 36-hour add-on course aimed at preserving and promoting the traditional handicraft of Himachal Pradesh—Chamba Rumal embroidery. This course took place from October 8, 2025, to February 25, 2026, under the leadership of Principal Dr. Anil Kumar Thakur and was coordinated by Dr. Bharti Bhagsain, an Assistant Professor in the Music Department.


A total of 32 students participated enthusiastically in this program, where they received both theoretical insights and hands-on training in traditional techniques, decorative styles, color palettes, and the cultural significance of Chamba Rumal embroidery. The sessions were led by Mrs. Dinesh Kumari, a recipient of the Presidential Award, whose expert guidance allowed students to delve into the intricate aspects of this folk art, along with its historical context and career opportunities.


During the valedictory ceremony, participants were awarded certificates in recognition of their efforts. Esteemed faculty members, including Dr. Diljit Singh, Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Dr. Anjana Gautam, and Prof. Manjeet Singh, were present to celebrate the occasion. The Principal emphasized the significance of skill-based courses in nurturing creativity, self-sufficiency, and cultural appreciation. The organizer expressed heartfelt thanks to the trainer and all participants for their active engagement.


This add-on course emerged as a valuable and motivating initiative, enhancing students' creative skills, fostering skill development, and encouraging an entrepreneurial mindset.
