Employee Disappears After Receiving Incorrect Salary Payment in Chile

The arrival of the first day of the month is eagerly anticipated by employees, as it marks the day their salaries are credited. This moment brings a sense of financial relief, allowing them to indulge in their desires and settle various bills. The joy of receiving a salary notification on their mobile devices is often overwhelming.

Now, imagine the shock if a company mistakenly deposits millions into your account instead of your regular salary. Such a situation could leave anyone speechless. While most might consider returning the funds, one individual chose to resign and vanish instead.

Mistakenly Paid Millions

In Chile, a company known as Food Industrial Consortium (Cial) accidentally paid one of its employees 286 times his actual salary. The employee's standard salary was 500,000 pesos (approximately 43,000 rupees), but the company mistakenly credited his bank account with 165,398,851 Chilean pesos (around 1.42 crore rupees).

Cial oversees several prominent Chilean brands, including San Jorge, La Preferida, and Winter, and is recognized as the largest producer of cecinas, a type of cured meat originating from Spain. When the company requested the employee to return the mistakenly deposited funds, he assured them he would.

Employee Vanishes After Resignation

However, the employee later returned with his lawyer and submitted his resignation, promising to repay the company. Since then, he has disappeared without a trace.

The company became aware of the overpayment on May 30, and the employee submitted his resignation on June 2. This unusual incident has recently gained traction on social media.
