A Heartfelt Encounter at the District Office

During a public hearing at the district office in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, a touching incident unfolded on Saturday. A 76-year-old woman, Saraswati Devi, stood before District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh, visibly distressed and in tears. She revealed that her daughter, Premshanti, had physically assaulted her and forced her out of their home.

A Mother's Plea for Help

Saraswati expressed her despair, stating, "My daughter has taken over the house and has left me to live on the streets. Where can I go now?" Her emotional plea resonated with the DM and the officials present, prompting immediate action.

Two-Hour Mediation Session

Following the DM's orders, Joint Magistrate and Sub-Divisional Officer Anubhav Singh, along with revenue and police teams, quickly visited Dool village to assess the situation. Upon arrival, they were joined by the village head and other respected community members. A detailed mediation session lasting two hours was conducted, bringing both mother and daughter together for discussions.

Daughter's Struggles and Family Tensions

During the mediation, it became clear that there had been ongoing tension between the mother and daughter. Saraswati expressed her desire to live peacefully in her remaining years, while Premshanti explained that she had returned to her parental home after facing harassment in her in-laws' house. She denied the allegations of violence against her mother and mentioned that she would return to her in-laws after her marriage.

Community Intervention Leads to Reconciliation

After extensive discussions, the village community and administrative team facilitated a reconciliation between the two parties. Ultimately, Premshanti apologized to her mother, promising to change her behavior. Saraswati was allowed to return to her home, and the district administration took the matter seriously. Anubhav Singh instructed the local officials to monitor Saraswati's well-being closely, warning that any future complaints of mistreatment would lead to legal action.
