Forest Fire in Nanda Devi National Park
In the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, the district administration is on high alert following a forest fire in the rocky terrain between the Alaknanda and Lakshman Ganga rivers within the Nanda Devi National Park. According to officials, "The administration is fully vigilant in extinguishing the forest fire located in the rocky area between the Alaknanda and Lakshman Ganga rivers in the Govindghat mountain range of Nanda Devi National Park." Given the area's inaccessibility, plans have been made for aerial surveys and firefighting operations using helicopters.
Under the initiative of District Magistrate Gaurav Kumar, permission has been granted for helicopter surveys. Following the survey, District Officer Sarvesh Dubey informed a news agency that the Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib are completely safe. According to the Uttarakhand Information and Public Relations Department (DIPR), ground teams are working to extinguish the fire under the supervision of helicopters and drones. A post on social media stated that efforts to control the forest fire in the Govindghat range of Nanda Devi National Park are ongoing, with helicopters and drones being utilized for monitoring and surveying the affected area. This morning, the Indian Air Force (IAF) swiftly managed to control the forest fire in the Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve area of Uttarakhand.
As per the Central Air Command (CAC), a Mi-17 V5 helicopter from the Indian Air Force was deployed in Joshimath for firefighting at the request of the state government. This action highlighted the dual role of the Indian Air Force in defense and disaster relief. The official statement from CAC emphasized that the prompt action taken to tackle the forest fire in the Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve once again showcased the operational readiness of the Indian Air Force.
