Emergency Relief Efforts Underway in Arunachal Pradesh Following Flash Floods

Itanagar, Jul 4: Recent heavy rainfall has led to flash floods and significant landslides in Arunachal Pradesh, isolating numerous remote villages from the rest of the state. In response, the local administration has deployed a commercial helicopter to deliver urgent food and medical supplies to the affected regions.
Several villages, including Rotte, Rame, Loglu, Lipin, Mane, Tene, Sipu, Kakki, Kadu, Rina, Sido, and Korang in Lower Siang, have been completely cut off due to collapsed bridges and road blockages caused by landslides.
Following an urgent request from the deputy commissioner of Lower Siang, a Mi-172 helicopter from Skyone Airways was mobilized for the operation, as reported by officials.
The helicopter is set to conduct multiple flights on Saturday, transporting essential food and medical supplies from the Pasighat Advanced Landing Ground in East Siang district to the Koyu helipad in Lower Siang.
As per the Directorate of Civil Aviation's schedule, the helicopter departed from Naharlagun at 8 AM on Saturday and arrived at Koyu helipad an hour later to commence emergency relief efforts.
Civil aviation authorities have placed administrative, disaster management, and food safety officials in Itanagar, Pasighat, Likabali, and Nari on high alert to ensure the efficient offloading and distribution of supplies to those in need.
Additionally, the Lower Siang district administration is working to clear debris along the Likabali-Basar-Bame section of the Akajan-Likabali-Bame Road.
According to Mokar Riba, the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Likabali, a significant landslide near Brahmaputra View in Garu has prompted immediate clearance operations.
To maintain commuter safety and facilitate uninterrupted restoration efforts, the district administration has implemented a strict traffic regulation schedule for all vehicles on the Akajan-Likabali-Bame Road. The order states that any violations will result in strict legal consequences.
This road is crucial for seven border districts in Arunachal Pradesh and holds significant strategic importance for national security, enabling the smooth transit of security personnel and equipment to border areas.
