Turkish Airlines Flight Faces Emergency Situation
Kolkata: A Turkish Airlines Airbus A330-300 was forced to make an emergency landing at Kolkata Airport after the pilot reported a fire in the right engine, according to the Civil Aviation Ministry.
The flight, designated THY 727, was en route from Kathmandu to Istanbul and took off from Tribhuvan International Airport with 236 passengers and 11 crew members at approximately 1:15 PM.
During the ascent, the pilot detected a malfunction in one of the engines. An official stated that the flight declared a PAN PAN distress signal due to the engine fire and requested to divert to Kolkata at 1:38 PM.
The aircraft landed safely at NSCBI Airport shortly after 2:30 PM, with emergency protocols activated. The fire was reportedly extinguished by 1:51 PM, indicating that the crew managed to control the flames during the flight.
Airport officials confirmed that there were no injuries reported among the passengers.
