Emergency Landing at Jaipur Airport Due to Hijack Alert
Security Alert at Jaipur Airport
Jaipur. On Wednesday morning, Jaipur International Airport was placed on high alert when an Air India flight traveling from Frankfurt to Delhi was forced to make an emergency landing due to a hijack alert. Flight AI-2030 was diverted to Jaipur after receiving suspicious signals from Ahmedabad Air Traffic Control (ATC). Following a safe landing, security personnel quickly took charge of the situation.
What Happened?
The international flight AI-2030, which had departed from Frankfurt, was entering Indian airspace when the pilot transmitted the squawk code 7500 for a brief moment. In aviation, the squawk code 7500 indicates a hijacking or unlawful seizure of the aircraft. This signal was detected by Ahmedabad ATC radar, prompting immediate action from security agencies.
Upon receiving the alert, the aircraft was redirected to the nearest safe airport, Jaipur. The plane landed safely around 9:45 AM and was immediately taken to an isolation bay, a designated area for emergency situations to keep the aircraft separate from others for thorough investigation.
Swift Action by Security Agencies
As soon as the aircraft touched down, personnel from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), local police, Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), and other security agencies arrived at the scene. They surrounded the aircraft and safely evacuated the passengers and crew members. The passengers were then taken to a designated holding area in the terminal.
Initial reports indicated that approximately 250 passengers were on board, all of whom, along with the crew, were reported safe. Security agencies are currently conducting a thorough examination of the aircraft and the passengers' belongings. So far, there has been no official confirmation of any suspicious activity.
Rumors of Hijack or Bomb Threat?
Some early reports mentioned a bomb threat; however, airport sources clarified that it was related to hijack rumors or a brief signal. An official, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated that it was a hijack rumor, not a bomb threat. Investigations are ongoing, and an official statement is awaited from Air India and the airport authority.
Panic Among Passengers
Passengers on board experienced a moment of panic as news of the alert spread. However, the pilot and crew managed the situation effectively, keeping the passengers calm. After the safe landing, passengers expressed their relief, with many taking to social media to discuss the incident.
Understanding Squawk Code 7500
In aviation security, squawk codes play a crucial role. The squawk code 7500 signifies a hijacking or unlawful interference with the aircraft. Other codes include squawk 7600 for communication issues and squawk 7700 for general emergencies. The pilot's brief transmission of this code triggered an alert throughout the system, activating security protocols.
Ongoing Investigation
Currently, security agencies are conducting a comprehensive investigation of the aircraft, passengers, and their belongings. Questions regarding the true cause of the alert, why the pilot transmitted the code, and whether there was an actual threat or just a technical glitch/misunderstanding will be answered following the investigation.
Security measures at Jaipur Airport have been heightened, and there may be impacts on other flights. Passengers and the general public are urged to avoid rumors and await official information.
This incident serves as a reminder of the sensitivity of aviation security and how swiftly security agencies respond to even the slightest suspicious activity. The aircraft will only be cleared for further movement once the safety of all passengers and crew is ensured.
