Election Counting Begins Across Four States and One Union Territory

As the counting of votes commences for significant elections across 823 constituencies in four states and one union territory, initial trends from postal ballots indicate that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has gained an edge in Assam with leads in 25 seats. Meanwhile, the Congress-led coalition is ahead in seven seats.




In Kerala, a tight race is unfolding between the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the United Democratic Front (UDF), with both parties currently leading in 50 seats each.


Trends in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal

In Tamil Nadu, the DMK has taken an early lead over the AIADMK-led alliance. Conversely, in West Bengal, the contest between the BJP and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) is witnessing fluctuations. As of 8:25 AM, early trends from Assam show the BJP-led alliance leading in 39 seats, indicating a strong performance in the state. The Congress-led coalition is ahead in 10 seats, while other alliances have leads in 2 seats.




According to initial trends, the TMC is leading in 50 seats, with the BJP closely following in second place with 40 seats. However, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is trailing in the Bhabanipur constituency, while BJP's Suvendu Adhikari is leading in both Bhabanipur and Nandigram.


Opposition's Confidence in Assam

Akhil Gogoi, president of the Raijor Dal and candidate from Sivasagar, expressed confidence before the counting, stating that opposition parties are hopeful of forming a government in Assam. He wished all 722 candidates well and asserted that the opposition would secure over 70 seats, achieving a clear mandate against the ruling party.




In West Medinipur, BJP leader Dilip Ghosh expressed confidence before the counting, claiming that the victory margin would exceed 'one lakh' and could reach 'millions.' Following the start of counting for the assembly elections, initial trends show Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee gaining an early lead in the Bhabanipur seat.
