Announcement of Election Dates

The Election Commission of India is set to reveal the election dates for five states: West Bengal, Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry. A press conference is scheduled for today at 4 PM at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. It is crucial to conduct elections in these states before the assembly terms expire, as all terms will conclude by June 15.


Assembly Term Expiration Dates

According to the Election Commission's data, the assembly term in West Bengal will end first on May 7. Following that, Tamil Nadu's term concludes on May 10, Assam on May 20, Kerala on May 23, and finally, Puducherry on June 15. The Commission will provide details about the voting schedule for a total of 824 seats across these states.


West Bengal's 294 Seats

West Bengal will hold elections for 294 seats, with approximately 70 million voters, including 36 million men and 34 million women. In the previous elections, voting occurred in eight phases, resulting in Mamata Banerjee's party, TMC, winning 215 seats, while the BJP secured 77.


Tamil Nadu's 234 Seats

In Tamil Nadu, 5.6 million voters will participate in elections for 234 seats. The last election was conducted in a single phase, where the DMK won 133 seats, leading to M.K. Stalin becoming the Chief Minister. The AIADMK obtained 66 seats, and the BJP won 5.


Assam's 126 Seats

Assam has 126 assembly seats and 24 million voters. The previous elections were held in three phases, with the NDA winning 75 seats and Himanta Biswa Sarma becoming the Chief Minister.


Situation in Kerala and Puducherry

In Kerala, elections for 140 seats were conducted in a single phase last time, with the LDF winning 99 seats, allowing Pinarayi Vijayan to continue as Chief Minister. Meanwhile, Puducherry, a Union Territory, has 30 seats, where the NDA won 16 seats in the last elections, leading to N. Rangasamy becoming the Chief Minister.
