Election Commission Unveils Schedule for Upcoming Assembly Elections in India
Election Schedule Announced
New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has revealed the election timetable for four states and one Union Territory (UT) on Sunday, detailing the comprehensive strategies implemented to guarantee free, fair, and transparent Assembly elections.
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar stated during a press briefing, "Assam and Kerala will conduct voting in a single phase on April 9. The UT of Puducherry will also hold elections on the same day. In Tamil Nadu, all 234 constituencies will vote in one phase on April 23."
He further explained that for West Bengal's 294-member Assembly, elections will occur in two phases: 152 seats on April 23 and the remaining 142 seats on April 29.
The results for all Assembly elections are set to be announced on May 4.
Additionally, the CEC disclosed that by-elections will take place in eight constituencies across Goa, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Tripura.
The by-elections in Gujarat and Maharashtra are scheduled for April 23, while the others will occur on April 9.
Results for these bypolls will also be revealed on May 4, coinciding with the Assembly election results.
This election cycle in West Bengal signifies a notable shift from previous years, as voting will be conducted in two phases instead of the eight phases that extended over a month in the last election.
Gyanesh Kumar made a passionate appeal to all voters to engage in the electoral process and cast their votes.
He particularly encouraged first-time voters, stating, "You are about to take on one of the most significant responsibilities of your life. I urge you to participate in this democratic process and make your voice heard."
"Elections in India are a celebration of democracy, a festival we all take pride in," he added.
