Election Commission to Announce Assembly Election Dates Soon
Upcoming Assembly Elections Announcement
The Election Commission is set to reveal the dates for the upcoming assembly elections on Sunday evening. Elections are scheduled to take place in West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Assam, and Puducherry. A press conference has been called for 4 PM to announce the election schedule.
The terms of the assemblies in these states will conclude on various dates in May and June. The final voter lists for the four states and the Union Territory of Puducherry have been published under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls.
Implementation of Model Code of Conduct
With the announcement, the Model Code of Conduct will come into effect across all election-bound states. The Election Commission panel, led by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, will declare the election notification, dates for candidate nominations, withdrawal of nominations, voting, and results. This panel also includes Election Commissioners Dr. Sukbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi.
Focus on West Bengal Elections
All eyes will be on West Bengal, where it is unlikely that elections will be held in more than three phases, as there seems to be a consensus among most political parties on this matter. Additionally, reports indicate that the BJP has advised the Election Commission against conducting elections in seven or eight phases as was done in 2021, deeming it neither appropriate nor practical.
