Election Commission Takes Swift Action Against CRPF Personnel for Misconduct in Kolkata
Immediate Suspension of CRPF Personnel
Kolkata: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has swiftly suspended three personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) due to allegations of negligence and a lack of impartiality. This decision follows an incident where the personnel reportedly entered a Trinamool Congress office and engaged in a game of carrom.
The suspension was confirmed late Saturday night, according to sources within the Election Commission. It has come to light that the CRPF members were assigned to patrol a designated area in Birbhum district on Saturday. Instead of fulfilling their duty, they allegedly wandered into a local Trinamool Congress office, where they not only conversed casually with party workers but also participated in a carrom game that lasted nearly an hour.
The Election Commission was alerted to this situation, leading to outrage among officials regarding the apparent bias and negligence displayed by the central forces. Following a prompt investigation, the decision to suspend the three personnel was made, and departmental proceedings against them have been initiated.
This is not the first instance of the Commission taking strict measures against central forces; previous actions have been taken against Border Security Force (BSF) personnel based on similar complaints. With the Assembly elections approaching, the Election Commission is keen on maintaining the integrity of the central forces.
The Commission believes that the presence of CRPF personnel in a political party's office undermines the professionalism expected from them. This incident has prompted warnings to other personnel deployed in the district, emphasizing that any form of indiscretion will not be tolerated during the election period.
