Election Commission Offers New Opportunity for Voter Registration in Seven States

In a significant move, the Election Commission has announced a new opportunity for voters in seven states who were previously marked as Absent, Shifted, Dead, or Duplicate. This initiative aims to rectify the exclusion of millions from the electoral rolls during the Special Intensive Revision process. The Commission has directed local electoral officials to assist these voters in getting their names included, amidst allegations of disenfranchisement. Lists of affected voters will be displayed at polling stations and made available online, while efforts will be made to contact them through various means. This decision comes in response to criticism from opposition parties regarding the integrity of the electoral process.

New Delhi, Nov 7: The Election Commission has responded to accusations of disenfranchising millions of voters by providing a new opportunity for electors in seven states. This initiative targets individuals categorized as Absent, Shifted, Dead, and Duplicate (ASDD), whose names were omitted from the draft electoral rolls during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.

The Commission has instructed the chief electoral officers in Delhi, Maharashtra, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Telangana, and Nagaland to assist in adding these voters to the final electoral rolls.

This decision pertains to voters who received enumeration forms but did not return them, leading to their exclusion from the draft rolls.

Opposition parties have accused the Election Commission of removing the names of millions of eligible voters under pressure from the ruling party. In defense, the Commission has stated that the revision process has been validated by the Supreme Court.

To facilitate the inclusion of these voters, lists detailing their names and reasons for exclusion will be displayed at polling stations and local government offices.

Additionally, these lists will be made available on the websites of the respective Chief Electoral Officers.

The Commission has mandated that officials distribute new enumeration forms to these voters and utilize various methods, including house visits, WhatsApp, email, and SMS, to reach out to them.

Voters who have already submitted Form-6 for new enrollment during the SIR will not need to fill out the Enumeration Form again.
