Voter List Revision Announcement

New Delhi. The Election Commission of India has revealed plans for an annual special summary revision of voter lists across six states and union territories. This initiative will involve updating the voter lists for Arunachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Mizoram, Odisha, and Sikkim.

The primary goal of this revision is to incorporate eligible voters into the electoral rolls, with a particular focus on young individuals and first-time voters. Additionally, provisions will be made for those who will reach voting age on April 1, July 1, and October 1, 2027, to apply in advance.

Draft Voter List to be Released on November 30

According to the Election Commission's schedule, the draft voter list will be published on November 30. Following the completion of the revision process, the final voter list is set to be released on January 21, 2027.

The Commission has mandated that physical verification of applications for the removal of names due to multiple entries in the voter list is essential. If more than two percent of voters at a polling station submit requests for name removals, the respective electoral registration officer must personally investigate these claims.

Furthermore, if a single objector files more than five objections, the electoral registration officer is also required to conduct a personal inquiry and verification. This measure aims to ensure thorough scrutiny in the name removal process from the voter list.

Voluntary Aadhar Submission for Forms 6 and 8

The Election Commission has clarified that providing Aadhar numbers in Forms 6 and 8 will be voluntary. Applications for voter registration will not be rejected solely for not providing Aadhar details. Similarly, existing voters will not have their names removed from the list based solely on the absence of Aadhar information.

It is noteworthy that on October 15, the Election Commission announced a special summary revision of voter lists in 17 states, including Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Manipur, Goa, and Punjab, which are preparing for upcoming assembly elections.

During that announcement, the Commission decided to provide political parties with voter lists in readable PDF format instead of image files for the first time.

The Election Commission has instructed the chief secretaries of the relevant states and union territories to ensure the availability of adequate staff and necessary resources for the smooth execution of this entire process.
