Elderly woman found dead under mysterious circumstances in Delhi, probe initiated
New Delhi, Sep 19 (IANS) A 79-year-old woman was found dead in her house at southwest Delhi, an official said on Tuesday, adding that police teams are investigating the incident.
Sharing the details, the police reported that on the night between Sunday and Monday, at 11:00 p.m, a police control room call was received at Kishangarh police station regarding an unconscious woman with blood in Gali no 1, Jia Sarai.
Upon arriving at the scene, police discovered the body of an elderly lady identified as Krishna Devi, lying in a pool of blood.
“Upon examination of the deceased, a deep wound was found on the front side of her neck. The deceased had been living alone for the past 10-12 years,” said a senior police official.
“A woman named Mamta, who operates a small kitchen for students, used to provide her with meals. However, last night around 9:30 p.m, when Mamta came to deliver food, she found the lights switched off. She called a young man from the second floor, and together they discovered the deceased lying in her room,” said the official.
However, no signs of robbery or burglary have been observed thus far.
“The body has been transported to Safdarjung Hospital for a post-mortem examination. The crime scene has been inspected by the Crime team and forensic experts,” said the official.
“Consequently, a case under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered at Kishangarh police station, and the investigation is currently underway,” said the official.
