Tragic Incident at Shivaji Park


A distressing event unfolded at Shivaji Park in Mumbai during a protest organized by the Cockroach People's Party (CJP). A 75-year-old man, Gopalakrishna Subbaiya Pillai, suddenly fell ill at the protest site. According to police reports, he experienced severe chest pain, prompting bystanders and officers to rush him to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, he passed away during treatment, with doctors attributing the cause of death to a heart attack.


Elderly Man Attended the Protest

Authorities stated that Gopalakrishna Subbaiya Pillai was a resident of Thane. He arrived at Shivaji Park around 4:30 PM on Friday, coinciding with the CJP protest. Approximately half an hour later, around 5 PM, he began to feel unwell near Gate Number 6, complaining of chest pain.


First Aid Administered on Site

Upon learning of the elderly man's condition, those nearby, along with police personnel, quickly intervened. A doctor present at the protest provided initial medical assistance before he was transported to Sushrusha Hospital located within Shivaji Park. Sadly, his condition deteriorated further at the hospital, leading to his death, as confirmed by medical staff.


Police File Accidental Death Report

Following the incident, the police registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR). Reports indicate that the family did not raise any objections, allowing the body to be returned to them.


Purpose of the Protest

The CJP protest at Shivaji Park was aimed at demanding a thorough review of the electoral roll. Protesters raised concerns regarding the electoral process and the voter list, calling for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
