Elavenil Valarivan's Remarkable Achievement

After winning two silver medals at the Asian Games, Indian shooter Elavenil Valarivan expressed her joy in being able to bring happiness to her loved ones. She dedicated her medals to her dedicated support team, who worked diligently alongside her in preparation for the prestigious event. In the Women's 10m Air Rifle individual final, Elavenil showcased her skills by scoring a total of 252.4, consistently hitting high-10s. She narrowly missed the gold medal, finishing just 0.6 points behind Japan's Hinata Taichi, who set a new Asian Games record with a score of 253.0. South Korea's Ban Hyojin, the Olympic champion, secured the bronze with a score of 230.4. Additionally, Elavenil, along with teammates Sonam Maskar and Vidarsa Vinod, earned a silver medal in the team event with a combined score of 1898.0.

Dedication to Support Team

In an interview, Elavenil shared her thoughts on her recent success, stating, "I am still processing this moment; it feels very fresh. I spoke with my family, mentor, coach, and psychologist, and I could see their happiness, which I am grateful for." She reflected on her previous Olympic experiences, noting that she had never been in a position to win a medal before. During her Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020, she placed 16th in the individual 10m air rifle and 12th in the mixed team event. "I am thankful for the chance to represent my country and win a medal," she added.

Acknowledging the Support Team's Efforts

Elavenil emphasized the crucial role her support team played in her preparation, ensuring she was fully equipped for the competition. "This medal is dedicated to my support team, who have worked tirelessly with me over the past few months, ensuring I was prepared in every aspect of my sport. This is for my coach, psychologist, nutritionist, mentor, strength and conditioning coach, and everyone who has been part of this journey," she stated.

Confidence in the Indian Contingent

Elavenil expressed her confidence in the Indian team, which had already secured two medals on the opening day of the Games. "I believe they have trained exceptionally well and will showcase their best performances. I wish them all the best of luck," she concluded.

Performance in Individual Final

In the individual final, Elavenil's consistent high-10 scores led her to a total of 252.4. She finished just behind Japan's Hinata Taichi, who set a new Asian Games record with a score of 253.0, while South Korea's Ban Hyojin took the bronze with 230.4.

Team Event Silver Medal

Earlier in the day, the Indian team kicked off their medal tally at the Games by securing silver in the team event, which is determined by aggregate qualification scores. The team achieved a total of 1898.0, with Sonam leading the way with an impressive score of 634.1, finishing third overall. Elavenil qualified in seventh place with 633.5, while Vidarsa contributed a solid score of 630.4, placing 12th in the individual rankings.
