Protests Lead to Arrests in Delhi

The Crime Branch of Delhi Police confirmed on Tuesday that eight individuals, including Uday Bhanu Chib, the president of the Indian Youth Congress, were apprehended in connection with a 'shirtless' protest that occurred during the India AI Impact Summit 2026 at Bharat Mandapam in the national capital. During a press briefing, Devesh Chandra Srivastava, Special CP of the Crime Branch, stated that they have gathered substantial evidence indicating that the incident was part of a deeper conspiracy.

Srivastava mentioned that based on the ongoing investigation, they have found solid proof that the protest was orchestrated with ulterior motives. The case has now been transferred to the interstate cell of the Crime Branch for further investigation. An officer revealed that an FIR has been registered at Tilak Marg police station under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 61(2), 121(1), 132, 190, 195(1), 221, 223(A), 196, 197, and 3(5). So far, eight individuals have been arrested, including officials from the Indian Youth Congress. All detainees have been interrogated following their arrest, including Uday Bhanu Chib.

On February 20, members of the Indian Youth Congress protested at Bharat Mandapam during the All Impact India Summit by removing their shirts and chanting slogans against the 'compromising Prime Minister.' The police have filed an FIR at Tilak Marg police station under the Indian Penal Code for various offenses, including promoting enmity between different groups based on religion, caste, birthplace, residence, or language, which is a non-bailable offense.

According to police, Chib faces charges under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 61(2) for criminal conspiracy, 121(1) for intentionally causing harm to a public servant, 132 for using violence against a public servant during a riot, and 195(1) for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of their duties. After his arrest, he was brought to Patiala House Court.
