Eid Celebrations Across India: A Blend of Joy and Protest

Eid Festivities Marked by Unity and Celebration

Eid was celebrated nationwide with great enthusiasm and a spirit of brotherhood. After performing prayers at mosques and Eidgahs, people were seen embracing each other and exchanging greetings. Various regions of the country were filled with a festive atmosphere, particularly among the youth. Numerous images from across the nation captured the essence of the celebration. In the city of Ara, Bhojpur district, a unique scene unfolded where the festivities were marked by camaraderie and love. During this time, a rush to take selfies with posters of Iran's former Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, was notable. A poster depicting Khamenei was displayed in the Gopali Chowk area, where young people took selfies and congratulated each other on Eid. The poster sparked conversations among passersby, especially after Khamenei's death in late February due to attacks attributed to the U.S. and Israel.

Political Figures Join Eid Celebrations

In Bihar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's son, Nishant Kumar, continued his father's legacy by attending the historic Gandhi Maidan for Eid prayers, where thousands gathered. Notably, Nitish Kumar himself did not attend, as he is expected to resign soon after being elected to the Rajya Sabha. Despite light morning rain, attendees performed prayers at the venue. Nishant visited several Sufi shrines in the city, extending Eid greetings to community leaders and enjoying festive dishes. The crowd warmly welcomed the 44-year-old Nishant, who recently entered politics by joining his father's party, Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)). Typically reserved, Nishant expressed his Eid wishes on behalf of his father, wishing blessings upon all.

Diverse Reactions Among Communities

In Madhya Pradesh, many members of the Shia community chose not to celebrate Eid on Saturday, instead protesting against the U.S.-Israel attacks that led to the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. They voiced their dissent with slogans against the two nations. In contrast, the Sunni community celebrated Eid with enthusiasm, performing prayers at Eidgahs throughout the state. Across the country, Eid was observed on Saturday, with Shia individuals protesting the attacks on Iran. Many Shia participants wore black armbands during prayers to signify their protest, including children. A portrait of Khamenei was also displayed at the Imam Bada in the capital.
