Imphal, Apr 8: In light of ongoing tensions in Manipur, Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh is planning a visit to the Kangpokpi district, predominantly inhabited by the Kuki community. This move is perceived as a significant step towards rebuilding trust and restoring normalcy amidst ethnic strife.

Deputy Chief Minister Loshi Dikho mentioned that the Naga Peoples’ Organisation, along with key tribal groups, women’s associations, and student bodies, is organizing a warm welcome for the Chief Minister in Senapati.

“The community desires peace. There is widespread support for the government’s efforts, with only a handful of disruptive individuals attempting to instigate issues,” he remarked.

Dikho emphasized the administration's outreach initiatives, noting that the Khemchand-led government has made several visits to areas affected by conflict, such as Jiribam, and has garnered significant public backing.

He urged the populace to recognize that enduring peace is crucial for the future of Manipur.

“Manipur holds great potential. However, progress is impossible without peace. I urge everyone to foster understanding and collaboration,” he stated.

In a related development, the Manipur government announced on Wednesday that it has conditionally lifted the suspension of broadband services in five valley districts, although mobile data services remain halted.

An official statement from the Home Department indicated that this decision was made after assessing the current situation and the difficulties faced by residents, highlighting that the internet ban had hindered the operations of essential offices, including the high court, and affected work-from-home arrangements.

The statement clarified that the conditional lifting pertains to broadband connections (ILL and FTTH) provided by registered ISPs/TSPs only.

Users are required to adhere to all stipulated terms and conditions, including prohibitions on Wi-Fi or hotspot sharing, and are restricted from using any connections other than those authorized.

The internet restrictions were imposed following violent incidents in Bishnupur district on Tuesday, where two children lost their lives due to a bomb attack on their residence, and two others were killed when a mob attacked a CRPF camp during protests against the explosion.
