Effective Ways to Clean Towels and Eliminate Odors
Understanding Towel Maintenance
Towels are essential items that we use daily for drying our faces and bodies after bathing. However, they cannot be washed every day, leading to unpleasant odors over time. To combat these odors, towels can be sun-dried or washed, but sometimes these methods do not completely eliminate the smell.
Proper Towel Washing Techniques
Today, we will share the best method for washing towels that ensures they remain odor-free and free from germs. By following this technique, you can also avoid skin issues caused by dirty towels.
White vinegar and baking soda are two effective ingredients that can help remove odors and disinfect your towels. The acetic acid in vinegar kills germs, while the alkaline properties of baking soda assist in removing dirt and oil. You can also use lemon juice if preferred.
Step-by-Step Towel Cleaning Process
Start by placing your towels in the washing machine along with one cup of white vinegar. If the towels are particularly smelly, rinse them in warm water first. Avoid washing them with other clothes. Do not use cleaning detergents or fabric softeners in the washing machine.
After completing one wash cycle, leave the towels in the machine and sprinkle half a cup of baking soda on top. Then, initiate a hot water wash cycle, selecting the appropriate temperature to eliminate germs. If your washing machine lacks a hot water feature, you can add hot water separately.
Once washed, transfer the towels to the dryer. If possible, let them sit in the sun for a while. If you do not have access to a washing machine, you can follow the same process by hand: first wash the towels with one cup of white vinegar and water, then sprinkle baking soda, preferably using warm water.
Additional Towel Care Tips
Always fold towels only after they have been thoroughly dried in the sun. Use minimal detergent when washing towels, and consider white vinegar as a natural fabric softener. Avoid keeping towels damp for extended periods.
