ED Investigates Land Acquisition Payments in Chhattisgarh

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has launched an investigation into alleged irregularities related to compensation payments for land acquisition under the Bharatmala project. This operation involved multiple raids across various locations in Chhattisgarh on Monday.

According to official sources, at least nine premises in the state capital, Raipur, and Mahasamund are currently being searched. The investigation focuses on discrepancies in compensation payments for land acquisition linked to the Raipur-Vishakhapatnam economic corridor under the Bharatmala initiative.

Sources indicate that the raids are targeting premises associated with Harmit Singh Khanuja, his alleged associates, certain government officials, and landowners. The Bharatmala project aims to develop approximately 26,000 kilometers of economic corridors, which are expected to significantly enhance freight transport on roads, particularly in conjunction with the Golden Quadrilateral (GQ) and North-South and East-West (NS-EW) corridors.
