ED's Arrest Sparks Controversy
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has apprehended a man named John Britto in connection with a drug trafficking investigation. The DMK party attempted to embarrass TVK leader Aadhav Arjun by linking him to this case through a relative. However, it turns out that they are two distinct individuals, and the wrongly implicated Britto has filed a complaint with the police. Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, he stated that false information is being circulated about him and his relatives. He clarified that he is a different John Britto. Aadhav Arjun's mother-in-law, Leena Rose Martin, is an MLA from AIADMK representing the constituency of Lalgudi and is the sister of John Britto.
Clarification from John Britto
Britto, a relative of Arjun, informed the media that he operates a plastic recycling business in Coimbatore. He emphasized that his sister is an MLA from Lalgudi and that he is not involved in any drug trafficking activities. The confusion arises from the similarity in their names. He has lodged a complaint with the commissioner's office regarding the misinformation. The DMK's IT wing has since deleted the tweets related to this matter. Meanwhile, Arjun has filed a lawsuit against former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and the DMK's IT wing, demanding a public apology within 48 hours and a compensation of 1 crore rupees for linking him to the drug trafficking allegations.
Legal Action Threatened
The legal notice accuses the DMK and its online network of making "false and defamatory" claims by associating Arjun's name with John Britto. The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence had previously arrested John Britto in this case. Arjun has warned that if his demands are not met within the stipulated time, he will initiate legal proceedings against the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and those responsible for spreading these claims.
