Awareness Initiative on Earthquake Safety

Sudhanshu Sharma from Nurpur reports that an earthquake preparedness event was conducted at Government Arya Degree College, led by Principal Dr. Anil Kumar Thakur. The main aim of this initiative was to inform both students and faculty about the necessary safety protocols to follow during natural disasters, particularly earthquakes.

The event commenced with a detailed lecture from the Assistant Professor of Geography, who discussed the causes, effects, and preventive strategies associated with earthquakes. Surjit Singh, a member of the Disaster Management Committee, pointed out that Himachal Pradesh is particularly vulnerable to seismic activity, underscoring the importance of readiness and awareness.

Subsequently, a mock drill was executed on campus, simulating an earthquake situation. When the alarm rang, students and staff were directed to designated safe areas and practiced essential techniques such as 'Drop, Cover, and Hold.' Dr. Satya Prakash noted that these drills are crucial for helping individuals make swift and informed decisions during crises, which can significantly mitigate the risk of casualties and property damage.

The event wrapped up with Professor Manjeet expressing appreciation to all attendees and committing to the continuation of similar awareness programs in the future.
