A court in Durgapur has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of his wife. The incident involved the husband strangling his wife with a dog leash, and the verdict was delivered five years after the crime.

The tragic event occurred on September 5, 2021, when Biplab Parida, an assistant manager at a state-run bank, was living with his wife, Ipsa Priyadarshini, in a rented accommodation in the Arda area. Biplab hailed from Odisha, while Ipsa was originally from Cuttack. The couple, who married in 2019, reportedly had ongoing disputes since their marriage. On the night of the incident, an argument escalated, leading Biplab to allegedly strangle Ipsa with their pet dog's leash.
Confession and Legal Proceedings
Following the murder, Biplab drove to the Kanksa police station on his motorcycle and surrendered, admitting to his crime. Police later discovered Ipsa's body on the floor of their home. After a thorough investigation, witness testimonies, and hearings, the Durgapur district court found Biplab guilty, sentencing him to life imprisonment along with a fine of ₹50,000. The trial commenced on September 6, 2021, as stated by the public prosecutor.
