Shreyas Iyer Joins West Zone for Duleep Trophy
In anticipation of the Duleep Trophy, Shreyas Iyer, a promising young batter from India, has been invited to represent the West Zone. The final zonal teams are expected to be announced on Friday in Mumbai.
Notable Players Confirmed for the Tournament
Iyer is among several prominent players expressing interest in the tournament. Other notable names include Mumbai's middle-order batsman Sarfaraz Khan, all-rounder Shivam Dube, and fast bowler Tushar Deshpande, all of whom have communicated their availability to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA).
An MCA official confirmed to The Indian Express, stating, "Iyer is confirmed for the Duleep Trophy. Sarfaraz, Shivam Dube, and Tushar Deshpande are also confirmed."
Iyer's Recent Achievements and Selection Status
Iyer played a crucial role in India's victory at the Champions Trophy 2025 held in Dubai and helped the Punjab Kings reach the IPL 2025 final, although they ultimately lost to the Royal Challengers Bangalore in Ahmedabad.
Despite his impressive performances, Iyer was not selected for the ongoing Test series in England, with selectors opting for Karun Nair due to his recent domestic form.
South Zone Team Selection
For the South Zone, Tilak Varma has been appointed as captain, while seasoned players like KL Rahul, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Washington Sundar have been left out of the squad.
