Closure of Dudhwa National Park and Kishanpur Sanctuary
Dudhwa National Park (DNP) and Kishanpur Sanctuary have officially closed their doors to visitors starting Sunday, following the conclusion of this year's tourism season, as confirmed by officials on Monday.
To mark the end of the tourism season, the officials at Dudhwa Tiger Reserve (DTR) warmly bid farewell to the last group of tourists on Sunday evening and ceremonially locked the main entrance at the Dudhwa base camp.
The tourism season at DTR typically kicks off on November 15 and wraps up on June 15 with the onset of the monsoon. However, the 2024-25 tourism season commenced earlier, on November 6, attracting a significant number of visitors from various regions, both domestic and international, eager to experience the Dudhwa safari.
This season, tourists were treated to sightings of numerous species, including tigers, elephants, bears, wild boars, and various reptiles. Dr. Rengaraju Tamilselvan, the Deputy Director of Dudhwa National Park, reported that a record 644 foreign tourists visited this season, marking an impressive increase of approximately 175% compared to the 234 foreign tourists recorded in 2023-24.
He also noted a substantial rise in domestic tourist numbers, which increased from 50,961 in 2023-24 to 56,729 this year. Rengaraju highlighted that the surge in visitor numbers has led to a record revenue of ₹1,85,20,398 this season, compared to ₹1,39,73,240 in the previous season.
