Drukair Resumes Flights from Bhutan to Bangkok via Guwahati
Flight Services Expansion by Drukair
Guwahati, March 15: Drukair, the national airline of Bhutan, has announced the revival of its flight services connecting Paro to Bangkok with a stop in Guwahati. Additionally, starting next month, the airline will introduce a third weekly flight to Singapore through the northeastern city.
According to the airline, the reinstatement of the twice-weekly flights to Bangkok via Guwahati is crucial for enhancing regional connectivity, which has historically supported tourism, medical travel, education, and business interactions between Bhutan, northeastern India, and Thailand.
The new flight schedules will commence in April, covering the Paro-Guwahati-Singapore and Paro-Guwahati-Bangkok routes.
This additional service to Singapore is a response to the growing demand from passengers and reflects Drukair's commitment to improving access to major international destinations. The new schedule aims to provide better flexibility and efficient connections for travelers both entering and leaving the region.
Tandi Wangchuk, the CEO of Drukair, remarked on the expansion, stating, “The addition of a third weekly flight to Singapore and the return of our Bangkok services via Guwahati marks a significant advancement in our network expansion strategy.”
He noted that this expansion aligns with India's 'Act East Policy' and supports the travel needs associated with the Gelephu Mindfulness City project in southern Bhutan.
Wangchuk emphasized that improved connectivity is essential for promoting tourism, facilitating business and educational exchanges, and enhancing Bhutan's presence in international markets.
Jalpa H Vithalani, managing director of Global Aviation Services Pvt Ltd, which represents Drukair in India, added, “With Guwahati's international airport and Thailand's visa-on-arrival policy for Indian citizens, the resumption of this flight offers a direct and convenient route for regional travelers to Thailand.”
