Introduction of New Armored Platforms

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has introduced its newly developed 'Advanced Armored Platforms'. These platforms come in both tracked and wheeled variants, designed by the 'Vehicles Research and Development Establishment'. The official unveiling took place on Saturday at the facility located in Ahilyanagar, where Dr. Samir V. Kamat, the Secretary of Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO, formally presented these systems. These platforms are tailored to meet the evolving operational needs of the Indian armed forces.

Both platforms are equipped with an indigenous 30 mm crewless turret, utilizing advanced technology to enhance mobility, firepower, and protective capabilities. Featuring a powerful engine and automatic transmission, these systems boast an impressive power-to-weight ratio, increased speed, and improved obstacle negotiation capabilities, along with STANAG level 4 and 5 protection. They also offer modular blast and ballistic protection throughout their structure. To facilitate easy navigation through water obstacles and enhance deployment flexibility, their amphibious capability has been upgraded with hydro jets.

The 30-mm crewless turret is armed with a 7.62 mm PKT gun and is capable of launching anti-tank guided missiles. This base platform has been designed for versatility across various missions, significantly aiding operational planning for the armed forces. Currently, it features 65 percent indigenous content, with plans to increase this to 90 percent in the future.
