DRDO Guest House Manager Arrested for Spying in Rajasthan

Arrest of Mahendra Prasad in Jaisalmer

In Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, Mahendra Prasad, a contract manager at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) guest house, was apprehended by the CID Intelligence on Tuesday. He faces allegations of espionage for the Pakistani intelligence agency, ISI, and sharing sensitive national information across the border. Prasad is expected to be presented in court on Wednesday, where authorities may seek his remand for further questioning.

Dr. Vishnukant, the Inspector General of CID (Security) in Jaipur, stated that in light of the upcoming state-level Independence Day celebrations, the CID is actively monitoring potential anti-national and subversive activities by foreign agents within Rajasthan.

During this surveillance, it was discovered that the contract manager, a resident of Almora district in Uttarakhand, was communicating with the Pakistani intelligence agency via social media. He allegedly provided confidential information regarding the activities of DRDO scientists and Indian Army officials involved in missile and weapon testing at the firing range.

Following these revelations, various intelligence agencies conducted a joint interrogation of the suspect at a central inquiry center in Jaipur. A technical examination of his mobile phone confirmed that he was sharing sensitive information related to DRDO and the Indian Army with his contacts in Pakistan.

Consequently, a case was registered against Mahendra Prasad, son of Chani Ram, under the Official Secrets Act of 1923 on August 12. He was arrested by the Rajasthan CID Intelligence on charges of espionage.

Details of the Espionage Case

The surrounding area includes active military zones of the Army and Air Force, making it a high-security region for defense-related operations.
