Exciting Times at the DP World India Championship
The prestigious DP World India Championship, boasting a prize pool of $4 million, is set to attract some of the most renowned figures in golf, including defending champion Tommy Fleetwood and Career Grand Slam winner Rory McIlroy. This premier event, co-hosted by the DP World Tour and the DP World PGTI, will take place at the iconic Delhi Golf Club (DGC) and is expected to feature a strong contingent of Indian golfers, as highlighted in a recent press release from the DP World PGTI.
Top Players Earn Their Spots
This week, the top 24 players from the Race to DP World India Championship, which tracks the DP World PGTI Order of Merit, secured their positions in the tournament. The Race to DP World India Championship was introduced this year to reward consistent performance throughout the season, allowing the top 24 earners in prize money to compete in this season-ending event.
Leading Indian Contenders
The leading trio in the rankings includes Saptak Talwar, Khalin Joshi, and Veer Ahlawat. Saptak Talwar, who won the Indorama Ventures Open earlier this season, has consistently performed well, achieving seven top-10 finishes. He has also represented India at the recent Asian Games and currently leads the DP World PGTI Order of Merit with earnings of ₹99,59,684, holding a significant lead over his closest competitor, Khalin Joshi. Talwar aims to secure the Order of Merit title, which will grant him full playing rights on the DP World Tour for the 2026-27 season.
Saptak expressed, "As the leader, I feel a mix of responsibility and privilege. The DGC holds a special place in my heart, and I aim to stay focused on the present to perform well this week."
Khalin Joshi has had an outstanding season, achieving four victories that have placed him second in the money list. His recent performances include three wire-to-wire wins. Joshi, who previously won an Asian Tour event at the DGC in 2018, is also in contention for the Order of Merit title, with earnings of ₹77,32,225. He remarked, "We all aim to showcase our best this week at DGC, where I have fond memories of past victories."
Veer Ahlawat, a former Order of Merit champion, is currently third with earnings of ₹65,97,400. Having played on the DP World Tour in 2025, he brings valuable experience and consistency, with nine top-10 finishes this season. Veer noted, "This week features the strongest field, and we all know the DGC well, which gives us an edge."
