Double Murder in Azamgarh: Elderly Man and Grandson Killed with Axe
Tragic Incident in Azamgarh District
In a shocking incident in the Pawai area of Azamgarh district, Uttar Pradesh, an elderly man and his grandson were allegedly murdered by unidentified assailants using an axe. The police disclosed details of this double homicide on Friday.
According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Dr. Anil Kumar, the brutal act occurred around 1:30 AM on Thursday in the village of Hewati Dihwa, located within the Pawai jurisdiction.
The SP reported that the attackers first targeted 70-year-old Jagdamba Prasad Yadav, who was sleeping near a tube well, and killed him by slitting his throat with an axe. Subsequently, they proceeded to the home of the victims, approximately 400 meters away, where they attacked 25-year-old Shrivanshu Yadav, also known as Ankit, who was sleeping on the porch.
During the attack, Ankit's grandmother, Phoolkumari, heard some noises and called out. When she received no response, she woke up two of her other grandsons. Upon stepping outside, they found Ankit in a critically injured state. The family rushed him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. When they returned to the tube well to inform Jagdamba Prasad, they discovered his body as well.
The police have recovered the axe used in the murders from a sugarcane field located about 100 meters from the crime scene. Ankit's brother, Shiv Kumar Yadav, has alleged that the double murder was motivated by an ongoing land dispute and previous enmity with neighbors. Family members shared that Ankit had recently returned home after living in Delhi to prepare for competitive exams.
SP Dr. Anil Kumar stated that both bodies have been sent for post-mortem examinations, and a case has been registered based on the complaint. Multiple police teams have been formed to ensure the swift arrest of the culprits, and the investigation is being conducted from all angles.
