Trump's Decision to Miss His Son's Wedding

On Friday, US President Donald Trump announced that he would not be attending the wedding of his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., due to pressing government obligations and rising tensions with Iran. In a message shared on Truth Social, Trump expressed his desire to be present for the ceremony but ultimately decided to stay in Washington. He stated, "While I very much wanted to be with my son, Don Jr., and the newest member of the Trump Family, his soon-to-be wife, Bettina, circumstances pertaining to Government, and my love for the United States of America, do not allow me to do so." He emphasized the importance of remaining at the White House during this critical time, adding, "Congratulations to Don and Bettina!"

Initially, Trump had planned to spend the weekend at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, but he later opted to stay in Washington. Donald Trump Jr., aged 48, is set to marry Bettina Anderson, 39, on Saturday in a private ceremony in the Bahamas, which will be attended by a small group of family and friends, with reports indicating fewer than 50 guests are expected.

The couple reportedly began their relationship during the 2024 presidential campaign after Trump Jr. ended his engagement with Kimberly Guilfoyle. While the exact wedding location remains undisclosed, several Bahamian islands are conveniently located near Mar-a-Lago, the Trump family's estate in Florida.

During a discussion in the Oval Office on Thursday, Trump hinted that international issues were influencing his decision to miss the wedding. He mentioned, "He'd like me to go, but it's going to be just a small little private affair, and I'm going to try and make it," before adding, "I said, ‘You know, this is not good timing for me. I have a thing called Iran and other things.'" Trump also humorously remarked on the political implications of his choice, saying, "If I do attend, I get killed. If I don't attend, I get killed — by the fake news, of course."

Reports indicate that all five of Trump's children — Ivanka, Eric, Tiffany, and Barron — are expected to attend the wedding, although it is uncertain if First Lady Melania Trump will be present. Trump had previously attended Donald Trump Jr.'s first wedding to Vanessa Trump at Mar-a-Lago in 2005, with the former couple sharing five children.
