Arrest of Domestic Worker in Major Theft Case

A domestic worker has been apprehended for allegedly stealing ₹40 lakhs in cash from a residence in the Punjabi Bagh area of West Delhi, as reported by officials.

According to police, the suspect was hired by the employer to assist with the care of their father and had only started working there 15 days prior to the theft.

The police received a complaint regarding the theft on November 29, leading to the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code on November 30.

A senior police officer stated that during the investigation, CCTV footage from the house and surrounding areas was reviewed. Initial footage showed the main suspect, Dhruv, leaving the house empty-handed.

However, upon closer examination of nearby CCTV cameras, he was seen with accomplices Jatin and Shivam, with one clip showing Shivam carrying a black bag.

Following the incident, the mobile phones of all three suspects were turned off, prompting police to conduct raids at their potential locations in Delhi, but they were not found.

The officer noted that technical surveillance and analysis of Call Detail Records (CDR) indicated that the suspects had left Delhi and were later traced to Jammu and Kashmir.

As a result of ongoing efforts, Dhruv and Jatin surrendered to the court. During questioning, it was revealed that the trio frequently used the same travel agency for interstate travel.

Investigations revealed that Shivam had booked a cab to Himachal Pradesh. Acting on this lead, police located the cab driver, who provided information about Shivam's whereabouts.

The police team quickly arrived at a hotel in Himachal Pradesh and arrested Shivam.

During the search, authorities recovered ₹36.05 lakhs in cash, along with branded shoes and clothing, which were allegedly purchased with the stolen money.

The recovered items have been seized, and the suspect has been presented in court and remanded to judicial custody. The investigation into the case is ongoing.
