A 49-year-old surgeon, Neil Hopper, has reportedly amputated both of his legs in a shocking bid to claim insurance money amounting to approximately £500,000 (around ₹5.82 crores). The Insurance Scheme

Hopper devised a scheme to file claims with two major insurance companies on June 3 and June 26, 2019, totaling nearly £500,000. He fabricated a story claiming that he lost his legs due to sepsis, while the grim reality was that he had orchestrated the entire incident himself. His medical license was suspended in 2023 as the case unfolded.

Inciting Others to Follow Suit

In a further twist, Hopper allegedly encouraged another individual, Marius Gustafsson, to engage in similar self-harm. Evidence presented in court revealed that Hopper purchased videos from a website that demonstrated and promoted the process of amputation. This disturbing conspiracy reportedly spanned from August 21, 2018, to December 4, 2020.

A Disturbing Sense of Satisfaction

Incredibly, Hopper expressed a sense of happiness after losing his legs, stating in an interview, 'Life has become much more interesting after losing my legs.' He faces charges of fraud and inciting others to commit similar acts. The case continues to generate significant discussion across the UK.
