Doctor's Car Accident Injures Five on Pal–Umra Bridge

Surat, March 6: Late Thursday night, a car driven by a local physician lost control on the Pal–Umra Bridge, resulting in injuries to five individuals, according to police reports from Friday.
The vehicle involved was a Honda WR-V, operated by Dr. Viralkant Chaudhary, who resides in Bhatha village and is affiliated with Life Line Hospital.
Dr. Chaudhary explained to authorities that he was heading home around midnight after a lengthy surgical procedure when his car veered off course, colliding with three motorcycles and a tempo.
The injured parties—Himmatbhai Boricha, Bhavikben Chudasama, Parulben Rathod, Manishaben Rathod, and Prakash Singh—were promptly transported to Civil and Shaona hospitals for medical attention. Fortunately, all are reported to be in stable condition.
An official stated, "The accident took place late at night. The doctor claimed he was fatigued after completing surgery at the hospital. Five individuals have been injured and are currently hospitalized."
"No FIR has been filed yet; we are awaiting the recovery of the injured. The doctor is in our custody, and medical tests will be conducted to check for alcohol consumption, along with technical inspections of the vehicle. We are also reviewing CCTV footage from the bridge."
An eyewitness reported, “He was driving at high speed and first hit a tempo. He appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.”
Initial investigations indicate that fatigue from a late-night surgery may have played a role in the accident. Authorities will explore all potential factors once the forensic and medical examination results are available.
The crash led to temporary traffic delays, which were resolved quickly.
In a separate incident on the same day, a man lost his life following a head-on collision between two motorcycles in the Mota Varachha area.
CCTV footage captured the severity of the crash, and the injured riders were rushed to a nearby hospital. Police have opened a case and are looking into the details surrounding the accident.
