Identification of Crash Victims


As of Saturday, DNA testing has successfully confirmed the identities of 247 individuals who tragically lost their lives in the Air India plane crash that occurred in Ahmedabad on June 12, according to reports from a local news source.


Among those identified, 238 were passengers aboard the aircraft, which included 175 Indians, 52 British nationals, seven Portuguese, and one Canadian, as reported by another news outlet.


So far, the remains of 232 victims have been returned to their families, stated Dr. Rakesh Joshi, the Superintendent of Civil Hospital.


Families of eight victims have been requested to provide DNA samples from other relatives due to initial tests failing to produce matches, Dr. Joshi noted.


The incident involved Air India’s Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, which crashed just 33 seconds after takeoff while heading to London’s Gatwick airport. This disaster is being regarded as one of the worst aviation tragedies in the past decade.


There were 242 individuals on board the flight, with one passenger surviving despite suffering from impact injuries.


Additionally, 34 individuals on the ground lost their lives when the aircraft struck a hostel building associated with BJ Medical College and Hospital in Ahmedabad, as confirmed by Air India.
