Identification of Victims in Tragic Air India Crash

Authorities have confirmed the identities of 87 individuals who tragically lost their lives in the Air India plane crash that occurred in Ahmedabad on June 12, according to reports from officials on Monday.

Dr. Rajnish Patel, a professor of surgery at BJ Medical College and Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad, stated that the remains of 57 victims have been returned to their families following identification.

On Sunday, it was reported that the body of former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was also identified through DNA testing, and it was handed over to his family on Monday.

Rupani was one of the 242 passengers aboard the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, which was headed to Gatwick Airport in London when it crashed just 33 seconds after takeoff.

Remarkably, only one passenger survived the incident, sustaining “impact injuries.”

The aircraft crashed into the BJ Medical College hostel, resulting in the deaths of at least four medical students on the ground. This incident is being regarded as the worst aviation disaster in a decade.

While the total number of fatalities on the ground remains uncertain, the civil hospital reported on Sunday that 250 samples, including those from ground victims, have been collected for identification.

In related news, a high-level committee has been established to investigate the crash and is expected to convene for its first meeting on Monday, as reported by a local media outlet.

The committee is anticipated to deliver its findings within three months, outlining the cause of the crash, according to Civil Aviation Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu.
