Allegations Against the Central Government
On Tuesday, DMK MP Kanimozhi accused the central government of attempting to create "confusion" ahead of the Tamil Nadu assembly elections. She asserted that her party has effectively countered these efforts and is on the path to victory. Speaking before the elections, Kanimozhi claimed that measures like the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list and enforcement actions such as raids are being used to intimidate and mislead voters.
DMK's Confidence in Election Prospects
Kanimozhi noted that attempts to create confusion have been made on multiple fronts, including the SIR, but the DMK has actively addressed these challenges and successfully navigated them. Expressing confidence in the party's prospects, she stated that the DMK-led coalition is set to return to power, ensuring a second term for Chief Minister M.K. Stalin. She emphasized their strong belief in forming the government.
Stalin's Campaign and Criticism of the Central Government
Earlier in the day, Stalin led a morning march in Kannagi Nagar, Chennai, where a large crowd gathered on the final day of campaigning. Residents came out in significant numbers to meet the Chief Minister and show their support. Recently, Stalin has intensified his criticism of the central government's proposed delimitation process, labeling it an attempt to "punish" states like Tamil Nadu that have successfully managed population growth while excelling in the industrial sector.
Constitutional Amendment Bill and Election Timeline
His remarks followed the failure of the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill to secure the necessary two-thirds majority in Parliament, halting the delimitation reform process. Voting in Tamil Nadu is scheduled for April 23, with the ruling DMK-led coalition facing off against the NDA led by Edappadi K. Palaniswami. The counting of votes will take place on May 4.
