DMK Announces Candidates for Upcoming Elections

On Saturday, MK Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and leader of the DMK, released the first list of candidates for the upcoming elections. Notable names include O. Panneerselvam contesting from Bodinayakkanur and former minister Senthil Balaji from Coimbatore South. Stalin confirmed that the DMK will compete for 164 out of the 234 seats in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.


The Congress party is set to contest 28 seats in the state, while the DMDK has been allocated 10 seats, the VCK 8 seats, and both CPI and CPM will contest from five seats each.


Details of Candidate Allocations

Stalin announced the candidates during a press conference in Chennai. O. Panneerselvam will represent the party in Bodinayakkanur, while Stalin himself will run from Kolathur, and Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi will contest from Chepauk-Triplicane. Senthil Balaji is set to compete from Coimbatore South in the elections scheduled for April 23. The DMK is leading the Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) in the state.


According to the agreed terms, the Congress party, a key ally of the DMK, will contest from constituencies including Ponneri, Erode East, Vilavancode, Sivakasi, and Karaikudi. The DMDK, led by Premalatha Vijayakant, has been allocated 10 seats, including Vridachalam and Pallavaram. The VCK, under Thol Thirumavalavan, will contest from eight allocated seats, including Kattumannarkoil, Panrutti, and Tindivanam.


Seat Allocations for Left Parties

The CPI(M) has been assigned the Padmanabhapuram and Palani seats, while the CPI will contest from Thalli and Bhavani Sagar (SC) among others. Both leftist parties have received five seats each. The DMK has also designated seats for other allied parties, including the MDMK led by Vaiko, which will contest from four seats, three of which will be under the DMK's 'Rising Sun' symbol. Additionally, the MDMK has been allocated the Madurai South seat.
