Active Campaigning by DMK MP
DMK MP Tamilachi Thangapandian is vigorously campaigning across Tamil Nadu in support of alliance candidates ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. She highlighted the strong performance of the DMK government over the past five years, citing improvements in areas like Velachery, which previously suffered from heavy rainfall. "Today, I am here in the Velachery constituency to support our alliance candidate JMH Hasan Maulana from Congress. Our government has done commendable work in the last five years, and significant improvements have been made in Velachery under the leadership of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin," she stated.
Infrastructure Improvements and Election Promises
The MP noted that several drainage projects have been successfully completed in the area. "We have undertaken numerous development initiatives, resolving about 90% of the issues in Velachery. Regarding the DMK's electoral promises, she mentioned that the party had made 500 commitments, of which 405 have been fulfilled. However, she criticized the central government for not providing the necessary support to complete the remaining promises. Furthermore, she asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) will not win a single seat in the 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly elections," she added.
Recognition of Welfare Initiatives
Referring to the party's governance model, she stated that many of the DMK government's welfare initiatives have gained recognition beyond the state. She mentioned that the central government has taken responsibility for 13 schemes implemented by the Dravidian model government. "You can verify through RTI that 13 major programs have been executed by the Dravidian model government. The women's hostel scheme and the breakfast scheme have even been adopted internationally. The central government is emulating our programs, and the public is well aware of this," she claimed.
Criticism of BJP's Political Tactics
She also accused the BJP of engaging in "washing machine politics" by incorporating opposition leaders. "The term mafia can be synonymous with the BJP, which acts like a washing machine, accepting all corrupt individuals into its fold. This can be observed in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh. Regarding potential local alliances, she stated that in Tamil Nadu, we are not concerned with any so-called secret alliances. The DMK is a 75-year-old party, and Congress is a national movement with its own legacy. Therefore, we are not worried about these 'temporary parties,'" she remarked.
Political Gains from PM Modi's Visits
On Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visits to Tamil Nadu, Tamilachi Thangapandian remarked that these trips benefit the DMK-led alliance politically. "Prime Minister Modi's visits to Tamil Nadu are advantageous for us. Whenever he comes and shows affection for Tamil, which we consider insincere, people recognize the truth and vote against the BJP. Therefore, we welcome his visits. The more he visits Tamil Nadu, the more our alliance will benefit," she concluded.
