D.K. Shivakumar's Upcoming Oath Ceremony

In the midst of a power struggle in Karnataka, sources revealed on Saturday that D.K. Shivakumar is scheduled to take the oath of office as the Chief Minister on June 3 at 3 PM. Earlier that day, Shivakumar met with Governor Thawarchand Gehlot in the Lok Sabha. This meeting took place ahead of his anticipated election as the leader of the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) later in the evening. Following the CLP meeting, Shivakumar is expected to approach the Governor to claim the formation of the government and request the date for the oath-taking ceremony.

Earlier today, Shivakumar had an informal discussion with the Governor regarding the upcoming oath-taking ceremony for the new Chief Minister and the council of ministers. The Governor is set to leave for an event in Dharmasthala, located in the South Canara district, on Sunday. According to sources, the oath-taking ceremony could take place either on Sunday or Monday, although some reports suggest it might be scheduled for next week, possibly on Wednesday. Official confirmation is still awaited. Discussions are ongoing about whether the ceremony will be held at the Lok Bhavan or on the grand steps of Vidhana Soudha, although preparations have been observed near Vidhana Soudha.

On Friday, Shivakumar stated that the CLP meeting would occur in the presence of party observers, who will consult with the Congress High Command before making a final decision. He informed reporters that the CLP meeting is set for 4 PM in Bengaluru, with two observers arriving. The meeting will take place in their presence, and decisions will be made after consulting the High Command. Regarding the leadership change and his potential promotion to Chief Minister, Shivakumar mentioned that decisions would be made only after the election of the CLP leader. He added that he is currently unaware of when the election for the Congress Legislative Party leader will occur, and discussions will follow thereafter.

This series of events comes amid heightened political activity within the Karnataka Congress, following Siddaramaiah's voluntary resignation on May 28 at the suggestion of the party High Command. Previously, Shivakumar had met with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, in New Delhi. This meeting was part of ongoing discussions regarding legislative leadership, Rajya Sabha nominations, and organizational appointments.
