Disruptions at Hyderabad Airport: IndiGo Cancels 33 Flights
Flight Cancellations Impact Passengers
Hyderabad, Dec 3: Flight operations at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport faced significant disruptions as IndiGo cancelled a total of 33 flights, causing inconvenience for many travelers.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, 16 departures and 17 arrivals were cancelled, according to airport officials.
On December 2, there were nine departures and five arrivals that did not take place.
The following day, December 3, saw seven departures and 12 arrivals also being cancelled.
These cancellations affected numerous passengers traveling on major domestic routes.
Sources indicated that the cancellations were due to operational challenges faced by the airline, although no specific details were provided.
Flights arriving from Visakhapatnam, Goa, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Madurai, Hubbali, Bhopal, and Bhubaneswar were among those cancelled on Wednesday.
Departures to cities such as Delhi, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Hubbali, and Bhopal were also impacted.
Earlier on Tuesday, flights from Raipur, Coimbatore, Udaipur, Ahmedabad, and Goa were cancelled, along with departures to Ahmedabad, Coimbatore, Raipur, Udaipur, Goa, Calcutta, and Visakhapatnam.
Additionally, nine flights to destinations including Delhi, Bengaluru, Calcutta, Goa, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad experienced delays on Tuesday, leaving many passengers stranded at the airport.
Travelers heading to key domestic locations for connecting international flights were particularly affected.
Devotees of Ayappa also faced challenges due to these cancellations and delays. Those who had booked tickets for the Hyderabad-Kochi IndiGo flight found themselves stranded, with one devotee expressing frustration over the lack of response from airline staff regarding refunds.
The delays disrupted their plans for 'darshan' at Sabrimala.
The widespread cancellations are believed to stem from a technical issue affecting check-in systems at various airports across the country, linked to global service outages caused by a Microsoft Windows problem.
Additionally, two flights arriving in Hyderabad from Riyadh and Pune were diverted to Mumbai and Bengaluru due to poor visibility at the airport on Tuesday.
The Riyadh-Hyderabad flight XY325 was redirected to Mumbai, while the Pune-Hyderabad flight 6E 352 was sent to Bengaluru.
