Lok Sabha Debates Paper Leak Amendment Bill

The Lok Sabha is currently engaged in discussions regarding the amendment bill aimed at preventing paper leaks, initiated by Union Minister Jitendra Singh. This move follows the introduction of a bill by the central government on Monday, proposing amendments to the anti-paper leak law. The bill includes severe penalties, such as imprisonment for up to ten years and fines reaching 5 million rupees. Meanwhile, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day after opposition members demanded a statement from Home Minister Amit Shah concerning police actions against students protesting the NEET question paper leak.

Key Statements in Lok Sabha

Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi labeled the exam paper prevention law as a testament to the Modi government's failures, insisting that Home Minister Amit Shah should clarify who authorized the use of pellet guns against protesting students. He accused the former Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan of denying the paper leak issue in 2024, suggesting a consistent pattern of denial. Gogoi criticized the BJP for welcoming Pradhan in Parliament, likening it to honoring a war hero returning from battle.

BJP MP Baansuri Swaraj launched a fierce attack on Congress and opposition parties, claiming they are attempting to frame the paper leak issue as a post-2014 phenomenon. She emphasized that Prime Minister Modi has condemned paper leaks as a 'serious crime,' asserting that the amendment bill reflects the government's commitment to addressing this issue.

Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav mocked the BJP for securing Prime Minister Modi's position by accepting Pradhan's resignation. He referenced student protests at Jantar Mantar, stating that the government only bends when pressured. Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee accused the central government of failing to protect examinations and students, arguing that the newly introduced amendment bill cannot erase the government's 12 years of incompetence. DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran criticized the NEET exam as unnecessary, calling for its cancellation due to inconsistencies.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra stated that the government has systematically weakened sectors that generate employment, highlighting the failure of the examination system with 152 paper leaks in the past decade affecting millions of students, yet no one has been punished. She accused the government of hollowing out the education system by filling it with RSS propagandists.
