Disciplinary Action Taken Against Election Official in Jharkhand for Corruption
Corruption Uncovered During Voter List Revision in Jharkhand
In a significant disciplinary move in Garhwa district, Jharkhand, an election official has been removed from duty following allegations of corruption during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list. Evidence surfaced indicating that a Booth Level Officer (BLO) solicited bribes in exchange for distributing and collecting counting forms and entering data digitally.
The district administration announced this action on Monday, emphasizing that any form of negligence or corruption in electoral duties will not be tolerated. According to an official statement, the Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer, Pashupati Nath Mishra, initiated an investigation after a video emerged showing a BLO named Kusum Devi allegedly demanding money for her services.
The inquiry was conducted by the Assistant Electoral Registration Officer and Block Development Officer (BDO) of Dhurki. The investigation confirmed that the allegations presented in the video were valid, revealing that Kusum Devi had indeed sought illegal payments related to her responsibilities in the SIR process. Based on the findings, the Electoral Registration Officer and Sub-Divisional Officer recommended her removal from all election-related duties, which has been implemented.
Deputy Commissioner Pashupati Nath Mishra stated that maintaining fairness, transparency, and credibility in the electoral process is the top priority for the district administration. He warned that any form of corruption or negligence at any level will be dealt with severely. He also urged voters to report any instances of bribery or misconduct during the SIR-2026 process to the authorities immediately, ensuring that appropriate action can be taken against the offenders.
The special intensive revision of the voter list in Jharkhand commenced on June 30 and will continue until July 29. During this campaign, BLOs are tasked with distributing counting forms door-to-door, collecting completed forms, and conducting thorough checks.
