Dimapur, Oct 28: The Dimapur Police have implemented restrictions on firecracker usage during the upcoming Diwali and Gurpurab celebrations, allowing them only within a two-hour timeframe from 8 PM to 10 PM. Residents are encouraged to celebrate in an environmentally friendly and responsible manner.

An advisory released by the Commissioner of Police for Dimapur indicates that these restrictions will be enforced throughout Dimapur, Chumoukedima, and Niuland districts.

According to the guidelines, fireworks can only be set off during the specified hours for Diwali and Gurpurab.

On Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, the use of fireworks will be permitted from 11:55 PM to 12:30 AM.

The advisory explicitly bans the use of firecrackers in silence zones, which are defined as areas within 100 meters of hospitals, educational institutions, courts, and places of worship.

Additionally, firecrackers that produce noise levels exceeding 125 dB(A) or 145 dB(C) at a distance of four meters from the bursting point are prohibited.

The police have instructed e-commerce platforms and online marketplaces to refrain from processing orders or delivering firecrackers within the affected areas.

Violating the ban on online delivery of prohibited fireworks could lead to legal consequences under relevant laws, as stated in the advisory.

The sale of approved green crackers is limited to licensed vendors who possess valid permits.

Residents are also encouraged to participate in organized community fireworks displays at designated open spaces identified by local authorities to reduce individual firecracker use in crowded areas.

The Commissioner of Police has instructed all officers in charge to actively monitor compliance, conduct regular market inspections, and enforce adherence to these guidelines. Those who violate the rules will face penalties as per the law, the police warned.
