Dibrugarh Achieves 100% Institutional Deliveries for Two Consecutive Years

Dibrugarh, Sept 23: The district has successfully recorded a remarkable 100% rate of institutional deliveries, with no home births reported throughout the financial year 2025-26. This achievement encompasses a total of 21,895 births and has been maintained into the current financial year, with all 5,848 deliveries from April to July 2026 occurring in health facilities, according to local authorities.

This consistent performance signifies a major advancement for the district's public health system, especially considering its widely spread population and numerous tea garden regions. Health officials credit this success to ongoing initiatives that ensure pregnant women receive institutional care, skilled birth attendants, and timely referral services.

Recent statistics show a rise in institutional deliveries. From April to July this year, Dibrugarh recorded 5,848 deliveries, an increase of 469 compared to the 5,379 deliveries during the same period in 2025, marking an 8.72% growth. Notably, there were no home deliveries during these four months.

The district has shown consistent performance over the last six years, with institutional deliveries recorded as follows: 23,252 in 2020-21, 21,662 in 2021-22, 22,600 in 2022-23, 21,599 in 2023-24, 22,338 in 2024-25, and 21,895 in 2025-26. This totals 133,346 institutional deliveries over six years, averaging over 21,000 annually.

The health department attributes these sustained results to a comprehensive strategy that includes infrastructure development, pregnancy monitoring, community outreach, and emergency referral services. Delivery points, particularly those catering to tea garden populations, have been enhanced, and awareness campaigns have been launched to encourage families to choose institutional deliveries.

At the community level, health workers play a crucial role in registering and monitoring pregnancies, providing counseling to expectant mothers, conducting regular follow-ups, and managing high-risk pregnancies. Delivery facilities are well-equipped with trained doctors, nurses, and healthcare staff to ensure skilled care during childbirth.

The availability of referral and transport services has further bolstered the system, with 108 ambulance services and patient transport vehicles assisting women from remote areas in reaching health facilities when necessary.

Officials noted that this achievement not only reflects an increase in institutional births but also indicates a robust system where safe deliveries at health facilities are increasingly favored by families. The ongoing absence of home deliveries highlights the expanding reach of maternal healthcare services and the growing trust in institutional care.

The district health authorities have committed to maintaining the zero-home-delivery status while enhancing maternal and newborn care, particularly in remote and tea garden regions, to ensure timely access to safe childbirth services for every mother and newborn.
