Health Crisis in Ganjam District
In a troubling health incident in Odisha's Ganjam district, two individuals have succumbed to a diarrhoea outbreak, with more than 140 others falling ill, as reported by local officials on Monday.
The initial cases emerged from Ustapalli village in the Digapahandi block on Saturday, prompting immediate concern.
Over the last three days, two fatalities have been recorded, and 10 patients have been transferred to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur due to deteriorating health conditions.
A medical officer from the block stated that the precise cause of the outbreak is still under investigation.
Water samples from the village were collected for testing on Sunday, with results expected by Tuesday.
Sukant Kumar Nayak, the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO), confirmed that a medical team has been dispatched to the village following the report of the first cases.
He reassured that the situation is currently under control.
An awareness campaign has been initiated in the village to promote hygiene practices among residents.
Digapahandi MLA Sidhant Mohapatra visited the affected area on Sunday.
This outbreak follows a similar incident last month in Jajpur district, where hundreds were affected by diarrhoea.
