Dhubri District Enforces Prohibitory Orders Amid Rising Tensions

Prohibitory Measures Implemented in Dhubri
Dhubri, June 10: On Monday, District Commissioner Dibakar Nath enacted Section 163(1) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, to impose immediate prohibitory orders. This action was taken in response to potential threats to public peace and to avert any escalation of violence.
As part of these prohibitory measures, all shops and commercial entities within the Dhubri town limits are mandated to remain closed until further notice. Additionally, gatherings of five or more individuals in public spaces for protests, rallies, or meetings are strictly forbidden.
District Magistrate Nath cautioned that any breach of these prohibitory orders would result in legal consequences under Section 188 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and other applicable laws.
The decision to impose these orders followed a surge in communal tensions in Dhubri town, triggered by the alleged discovery of cow meat at various locations.
This incident led to significant unrest, prompting the closure of shops and markets throughout the town on Monday.
On Sunday, suspected cow meat was found near the Hanuman temple in the Balurchar area, and the situation escalated on Monday with reports of riot-like conditions in several neighborhoods, including the Chatianatala and Baluchar areas, where more alleged cow skin and meat were discovered. Police had to resort to using tear gas in certain locations to disperse the agitated crowds. The discovery of the suspected cow meat incited anger among local residents, further heightening the already tense atmosphere.
During a press briefing, the District Commissioner urged the public to uphold peace and avoid falling victim to misinformation. He assured that law enforcement, along with CRPF and paramilitary forces, have been deployed throughout the town to maintain safety and prevent further unrest.
Authorities confirmed the arrest of one individual, Ramjan Ali, in connection with the suspected meat found near the Hanuman Mandir. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the motives and identify those responsible for the incident.
Officials have called on all community members to collaborate with the administration to help restore normalcy in the town. Security measures remain stringent in sensitive areas, with additional forces on standby as a precaution.
