Circumstances Surrounding Sonam Raghuvanshi's Discovery

A senior police official from Uttar Pradesh has provided additional insights into the arrest of 24-year-old Sonam Raghuvanshi. She was located near a roadside eatery on the Varanasi-Ghazipur highway on Monday. Initially, she was taken to Sadar Hospital for medical attention before being moved to the Sakhi One Stop Centre, as stated by Amitabh Yash, the Additional Director General of Law and Order in Uttar Pradesh.

On the same day, reports indicated that Sonam was apprehended by the Ghazipur police. It was revealed that she had contacted her brother to assure him of her safety. This prompted the Madhya Pradesh police to be notified, and they proceeded to retrieve her.

According to Vipul Raghuvanshi, Sonam's brother, he received information about her whereabouts around 2 AM from another sibling, Govind. They subsequently alerted the Uttar Pradesh police, who took her into custody.

Vipul remarked, "I spoke to Govind at 2 AM, and he informed me that Sonam was located in Uttar Pradesh. After we reached out to the UP Police, she was taken into custody. She did not turn herself in. We will not accept that Sonam is guilty unless she admits to it."

He further mentioned that the family is unaware of how Sonam ended up in Ghazipur and has urged both the Madhya Pradesh Police and the CBI to investigate the matter.

In the meantime, Meghalaya's Director General of Police, Idashisha Nongrang, indicated that Sonam is suspected of being involved in the murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, during their honeymoon, allegedly hiring hitmen for the act. Meghalaya's Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, confirmed that three assailants have been arrested, with efforts ongoing to capture one more.

CM Sangma shared on X, "A significant breakthrough has been made by the #MeghalayaPolice in the Raja murder investigation within a week… Three assailants from Madhya Pradesh have been arrested, a female suspect has surrendered, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend one more suspect. Great job #MeghalayaPolice."

It is important to note that Raja Raghuvanshi and his wife, Sonam, both from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, went missing during their honeymoon in Meghalaya. Raja's body was discovered in a gorge near Cherrapunji on June 2. The couple had married on May 11 and began their honeymoon on May 20, with their last known sighting on May 23, when their phone was turned off later that evening.
